Week Two: Flooring
So this week is all about floors in the airbnb. Currently there are concrete floors just waiting for flooring to be installed. The trim is in with a space to fit new floors, we will just need to add a shoe molding after we install floors. We want to warm it up, so we are going to do woodlook vinyl floors
I wanted to do vinyl because it is easy to install (ha!), affordable and durable. But I also wanted a deal, so I went to the internet. I found a wholesale place in Burlington that had it for cheap! So we made a day of it, got some vinyl floors stopped by Lake Geneva then went to a fair with my brother and his family.
Now that we had the flooring, we needed to install it. Turns out buying it was easier. We have installed vinyl floors before, but they were a different kind and we were dealing with a level floor. Most of the floors in the airbnb are level, but there is an incline in the floor right when you walk in that we had to contend with. So that meant Nick had to break out his concrete skills and try to make the slant even the whole way, and then figure out how to put the vinyl tile over it. This itself took days. We had to wait for the concrete to dry, and then glue down the pieces on the slant so they wouldn’t buckle. Now that the floors are complete (well mostly, there is still the doorways and the shoe molding) we are moving on to space planning and furniture buying. We have a lot of stuff, but not enough for all the space we have.
It was fairly easy. Except for the incredible pain our backs were in each day. Plus trying to do all the other things that comes with life and moving. Like getting jobs, setting up a bank account, finding friends for our kids, getting to know the neighborhood etc. etc. So we did take a few breaks for fun, We are enjoying the bike paths and visits from friends to check out our new space.
